Indigenous
Niagara Community Legal Clinic is privileged to provide satellite legal services at Niagara Regional Native Centre and Fore Erie Native Friendship Centre. The areas in which we provide service to Indigenous Niagarans include human rights, tenant law, and social assistance law. In our advocacy for Indigenous clients, we regularly employ Gladue briefs – expertly researched accounts of how colonialism and intergenerational trauma intersect with individual Indigenous people’s particular situations of vulnerability.
We acknowledge that our agency is based on settler colonial law. We do our work on the lands of diverse First Nations, including the Mississaugas of the New Credit and the Six Nations of the Grand River – lands that today are home to diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people. We acknowledge that Niagara is protected by diverse treaties and by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum covenant.
